At Camping le Panoramic, Binic

 Thursday 30th May

 Today was an interesting day regarding finding a campsite by the coast near St-Brieuc.  We were heading for Les Madieres, but following the road signs to 'camping', we turned a corner on a tiny lane and there was an entrance to a site.  The gate was closed, but we parked outside and walked in to find the reception was all bolted and barred and then saw a sign that said 'closed Thursdays'!!  So we got back in the van and realised that this wasn't Camping Les Madieres after all.  That was a mile or so further on down the lane.  So we turned up there, it looked very attractive and a very nice lady greeted us in reception.  So far so good - but then she told us that as we had arrived at 12.15 (before their opening in the afternoon time of 2.00pm) we would need to pay a supplement of €10 as well as the usual night charge.  We shrugged, but then I said 'we need to use the washing machine' - reply was that it was en panne (out of order)!!!  Needless to say, we moved on ......

..... just a couple of miles north, to Binic and Le Panoramic.....

where we were given a lovely welcome, a large sunny pitch and a choice of 3 washing machines!!


Friday, 31st May

A walk down the hill and in 15 minutes we were by the beautiful beach and harbour of Binic. 

Of course it isn't summer in France yet, so there's hardly anyone on the beach and the wheel isn't working yet.

We looked in the church and rather liked the altar table.

The ice creams were amazing!
And the paddle, too!  (Although a warm sunny day, the breeze off the sea meant we need to keep our fleeces on.)

Auberge Val du Cesne, Croix-Mare, Normandie

 Sunday 19th May 2024  Today we travelled to Tenterden (our home town before Horsham) to attend the closing service of the Methodist Church we attended for 15 years.  A shame it is having to close but it has seen a lot of life and that was celebrated.  After the tea we showed Natalie the secret garden behind the building that was the library in our day.  A memorial garden and a very peaceful spot. Then on to Canterbury to the Park & Ride for the night.  Spent a lovely evening catching up with (very old!) friends from Bridge.  In fact Ann and Barry were our first real friends when we moved to Canterbury as newlyweds!   Monday 20th May Dover - Calais ferry this morning, then driving south into Normany.  First stop is at a France Passion.  the nearest town is Yvetot, but we are in the heart of the countryside in the grounds of a beautiful Auberge.  As it's been a lovely sunny evening we cooked our own dinner, enjoying the view...

Camping-Car Park at Conde sur Vire, Normandie

 What a grey day!  There was quite a lot of rain in the night at the Auberge, but dry this morning to set off again.  Did a lot of shopping at LeClerc on the outskirts of Yvetot, then motorway to the Pont de Normandie, which wasn't looking its best. So today we've come to the small town of Conde sur Vire.  Although it was dull and drizzly we still had a walk around the town this afternoon, finding our first geocache of the holiday beside the church! The building in the middle of this picture is the disused railway station and our van is to the left of it.  The area around the station is now a park, but a single track is still there, with velorail and pedarail contraptions, which we assume can be hired for a ride in high summer. We thought we'd continue our walk by following a path to the river Vire - passing this tree smothered with mistletoe when we got there, but some road repairs were going on over the bridge so we had to turn back!  Hoping for the sunsh...
